March 11th 2026 General Meeting: A Career in Photojournalism with Bob Pearson

by Tom Goldberg

A Career in Photojournalism with Bob Pearson

This month, longtime professional photojournalist Bob Pearson will share highlights from a remarkable career in news photography. Drawing from his extensive photo archives, Bob will tell behind-the-scenes stories from decades of covering major events and everyday moments that defined the news of their time.

Over the course of his career, Bob worked for three newspapers and two international wire services, traveling throughout the Americas, Europe, and parts of the Middle East. His assignments ranged from breaking news and every major genre of sports to coverage of the U.S. space program during the late 1980s and 1990s.

Since retiring from full-time news work, Bob has continued to take on occasional assignments while focusing more deeply on nature and travel photography. This presentation will feature images from some of his most memorable assignments and favorite journeys, offering both visual impact and insight into a life spent telling stories with a camera.

Join Bob Pearson and the Evergreen Camera Club at our new meeting location at the Center for the Arts Evergreen, 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen and on Zoom Wednesday, March 11th for 6:30 pm social time, brief announcements at 7:00 pm with Bob’s presentation to follow.

February 11th 2026 General Meeting Maroon Skies — Lunar Eclipses with Jürgen Lobert

by Ellen Nelson

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Evergreen Fire & Rescue Building will be closed for community meetings for the next two years! We are grateful that the Center for the Arts Evergreen has offered us meeting space in their beautiful facility near Natural Grocers at 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen. Hop on zoom to watch or join us in person at the art center for this event.

Everyone get ready! Did you know that there will be a Total Lunar Eclipse in the early morning hours of March 3rd? Jürgen Lobert will tell us what we need to know. This is an instructional presentation about lunar eclipses and how to photograph them by New England based fine art photographer Jürgen Lobert. Lunar eclipses are rare events, but provide one of nature’s most spectacular nighttime shows in the sky.

Photographing an eclipse is a very rewarding challenge, but also a fairly technical experience that requires specific approaches and careful execution to get the most out of the event. The presentation contains lots of inspiring imagery along with detailed explanations of preparation, execution and post processing.

Since Jürgen is based in New England, this presentation will be by Zoom on Wednesday, February 11th. Meet for 6:30 pm social time, brief announcements at 7:00 pm with Jürgen’s presentation to follow. We will ALSO MEET IN PERSON at the art center to watch the presentation as a group.

New members, students and guests are welcome.

January 2026 General Meeting: Wild Encounters, Quiet Moments with Jenny Powell

by Ellen Nelson

JENNY POWELL
Wild Encounters, Quiet Moments: Understanding Wildlife Behavior for Better Nature Photos

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Evergreen Fire & Rescue Building will be closed for community meetings for the next two years! We are grateful that the Center for the Arts Evergreen has offered us meeting space in their beautiful facility just west of Natural Grocers at 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen.

Photographing wildlife successfully means knowing when to stay and when to leave. It’s more than just gear and timing — it’s about presence, observation and respect. Local photographer Jenny P will explain how to read wildlife body language, plan your shots around natural light, and compose images that convey emotion rather than just documentation.

Join Jenny P and the Evergreen Camera Club at our new meeting location at the Center for the Arts Evergreen, 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen and on Zoom Wednesday, January 14th for 6:30 pm social time, brief announcements at 7:00 pm with Jenny’s presentation to follow.

February 25th (delayed from January 28th) 2026 Contest – a Non-Contest Contest

by Tom Goldberg

Delayed due to Lack of Participation

COME ON PEOPLE!!!     SUBMIT A FEW PHOTOS!!!     THE CLUB NEEDS YOUR IMAGES!!!

The Theme for January February 2026 is “Home Page Slide Show” – EVERY MEMBER SHOULD SUBMIT!!!
Enter your photos now for a rare opportunity to see your images in rotation on our web site for an extended showing.

Back in 2021 we ran a contest that used the entries to make the slide show that is running on our home page now. As we haven’t changed it for 5 years (yikes!), it’s long past time to freshen up ou home page!

Look back through your best photos and pick your favorite one, two, or three that will crop well into our horizontal format of 1200px x 500px. Get your image(s) to that size and just use our regular contest entry page and submit them into the Rotating category.

This is not really a contest because every paid-up member is guaranteed to get at least one image into the slide show rotation as long as they enter a properly cropped image. Submissions must be 1200 x 500 pixels (see the bottom of this post if you need help). If we really like your stuff, we may put 2 or even all 3 in, strictly at the discretion of our Judges (tbd). Images will be added to the home page slide show with the creator’s name in the same way as they appear now.

  • You must be a paid up member to enter
  • You may enter 1, 2 or 3 images per member
  • Images must be in jpeg and must be 1200px wide x 500px tall
  • Use the special contest entry form link below to upload your images
  • Deadline is 6pm on February 24th

Home Page Image Submissions

by Tom Goldberg

Images for our home page slide show have to fit the format and have to be high quality photos that we’ll all want to look at for at least a year! So gather up your best photos and see which ones will look good as very wide landscapes and then submit them for our Home Page Image Contest.

  • Images must be cropped to a 12×5 aspect ratio
  • Images should be sized to 1200 pixels wide by 500 pixels tall
  • Images must be in focus and well composed
  • Up to three images per person per contest

If you use Photoshop, Lightroom or Apple Photos here are instructions for adjusting images to our requirements. If you use another program, these steps are likely very close to what you can do in those apps.

If you don’t know how to crop an image to an aspect ratio:

In Photoshop, select the crop tool, and type the aspect ratio 12h 5v (or 1200h 500v) into the tool’s settings:

Cropping in Photoshop

Then use the crop tool to draw its rectangle around the part of the image you want to keep.

In Lightroom, choose the crop tool and set the aspect ratio to 12×5 using the settings with a custom aspect:

Then use the crop tool to draw its rectangle around the part of the image you want to keep.

In Photos, choose the crop tool and set the aspect ratio to 12×5 using the settings with a custom aspect:

If you don’t know how to export the correct number of pixels:

In Photoshop, select the Image Size item in the image menu and enter 1200 Width – Height will automatically go to 500 if your aspect is correct:

Sizing in Photoshop

Then select File > Export to save your image as a jpg. Alternately you can use the File > Export > Save For Web tool to set the number of pixels and save the file as a jpg all at the same time.

In Lightroom, use the File > Export menu item to access the export dialog where you can save at the same time as setting the pixels:

Sizing in Lightroom

In Photos, it doesn’t give you the option to set the number of pixels, so just select File > Export and export as jpg. We can most likely correct for size issues as needed.

If you have more questions, please email webmaster@evergreencameraclub.org.
