November 11th 2026 General Meeting: Where the (LOCAL) Wild Things Are with Ellen Nelson

by Ellen Nelson

Where the (LOCAL) Wild Things Are
Photographing and appreciating wildlife in Colorado

We have all taken some epic trips to far-flung locations: to photograph lions in Africa, tigers in India or polar bears in Norway (Oh My!). But while we’re busy renewing our passports, we’re often overlooking the world-class drama unfolding in our own zip code.

Evergreen professional photographer Ellen Nelson, M.Photog, CPP and 2025 World Photographic Cup finalist will entice you to look local; to the Colorado wildlife and opportunities you may have missed that are right outside your door. . .or at least nearby. She’ll reveal some of her favorite wildlife locations, the best time to find them, what to wear (yes, that can be a thing), animal behavior and your behavior.

Ellen Nelson doesn’t need to travel far. With two local galleries vying for her Colorado scenes and wildlife, the Evergreen photographer stays close to home to capture her award-winning images.

Join Ellen and the Evergreen Camera Club at the Center for the Arts Evergreen, 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen and on Zoom Wednesday, November 11th for 6:30 pm social time, brief announcements at 7:00 pm and Ellen’s presentation to follow.

Everyone in Colorado knows the place to shoot great fall aspen is Kenosha Pass, right? ….Not!

The reality is when leaf peeping starts, the one place you don’t want to be is waiting in traffic on your way out of Georgetown to get a view of the changing colors. The fact is, our mountains have thousands of beautiful passes, hill sides and valleys filled with fall splendor.

For this T&T, ECC members will discuss their favorite haunts for getting great fall shots.

September 26th 2026 Field Trip: SOUL OF THE CITY – A Soul Road Trips WalkAbout with Jeff Johnson

Finding Beauty in the Forgotten Corners
A Photographic Walk-About with Master Photographer Jeff Johnson

Step off the beaten path and into the heart of a small town’s soul. In this immersive three-hour workshop, we’ll explore the alleys, old storefronts, worn facades, and quiet corners of a rural city — places brimming with untold stories, unexpected textures, and the poetry of everyday life.

Led by Master photographer Jeff Johnson, this WalkAbout isn’t just about taking pictures — it’s about seeing differently. You’ll learn to spot the visual metaphors hiding in decay, the elegance of aging architecture, and the human touch etched into brick and rust. With a mix of technical guidance and emotional inspiration, Jeff will help you move beyond snapshots into soulful imagery.

Whether you’re shooting with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone, you’ll leave this experience seeing the world (and your photography) in a new light.

September 9th General Meeting: Fall Color – Beyond Technique with Bob Dean

by Tina Disorbio

Photographing Fall Color — Beyond Technique

Each fall, the Colorado Rocky Mountains burst into a dazzling show of reds, golds, and browns. This presentation explores how to create compelling fall color photographs by blending solid technique with a strong artistic approach. While basic digital camera settings and field techniques will be covered, the primary focus is on understanding light, composition, and the use of color to create more expressive images. Through a series of examples, we’ll look at how to recognize great light, simplify complex scenes, and design photographs that guide the viewer’s eye. The program encourages photographers to move beyond simply recording autumn color and instead interpret the landscape with intention and creativity.

Bob Dean has been exploring and photographing the outdoors for more than 50 years. Over the years he honed his photographic and writing skills and has written books and published images and articles in many magazines and newspapers.

Join Bob and the Evergreen Camera Club at the Center for the Arts Evergreen, 31880 Rocky Village Dr, Evergreen and on Zoom Wednesday, September 9th for 6:30 pm social time, brief announcements at 7:00 pm and Bob’s presentation to follow.

July 9th 2026 Field Trip: Herman Gulch Wildflower Hike with Penny Mohr

by Tom Goldberg

ECC member Penny Mohr has volunteered to lead a hike up Herman Gulch near Loveland pass to photograph the plentiful mountain wildflowers that grow along the trail. This hike is rated moderate to hard and will be about 1.5 miles and 900 vertical feet to reach a meadow destination covered with flowers.

Penny recommends you bring an appropriate lens for flower photography and tripod that allows you to get low with the flowers. As with any hike in the mountains, you will also need water, good hiking shoes, sunscreen, a hat and/or rain gear and snacks.

We will gather at the Evergreen Bergen Park Park-n-Ride at 6:30am, or you can join us at trailhead no later than 7:30am. Please RSVP for this event by sending an email to events@evergreencameraclub.org

Note that attending this event is at your own risk and neither ECC members nor the Club will be liable for any issues per the About > Legal item on this website.
